HIP & KNEE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT

Understand first. Then decide what comes next.

Hip and knee problems can affect much more than a joint. They can change how you walk, exercise, work, sleep, participate and enjoy everyday life. Our integrated Hip & Knee service brings assessment, rehabilitation and appropriate onward management together so that you can understand your options and make informed decisions about what comes next.

Assessment before deciding treatment.

We start by understanding your symptoms, movement, physical function, everyday difficulties and what you want to achieve. The aim is to help you understand your situation and the options that may be appropriate.

YOUR HIP

When your hip affects how you move through life.

Hip problems can involve pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, weakness, movement difficulties, activity-related symptoms or changes in everyday function. They may also affect preparation for or recovery from surgery.

YOUR KNEE

When your knee starts changing what you can do.

Knee problems can involve pain, stiffness, weakness, reduced movement, activity-related symptoms or functional limitations. Rehabilitation can also support preparation for and recovery after surgery where appropriate.

THE REHABILITATION PATHWAY

One pathway. Multiple options.

01

Assessment

Understand symptoms, movement, function, difficulties and goals.

02

Rehabilitation

Physiotherapy, exercise, education and functional rehabilitation as appropriate.

03

Additional Treatment Options

Joint injections or PRP where clinically appropriate.

04

Joint Replacement Readiness

Understand current function and prepare for informed discussions about possible surgery.

05

Prehabilitation

Build physical capacity and prepare for surgery or the next stage of recovery where appropriate.

06

Postoperative Rehabilitation

Support recovery, function and return to activity after surgery.

WHEN ANOTHER PATHWAY IS NEEDED

Rehabilitation does not always end with physiotherapy.

Sometimes an assessment identifies that another professional, investigation or service is the appropriate next step. Where appropriate, we can help you understand that next step and support onward referral.

Referral itself is not the rehabilitation intervention; it can be part of helping you access the appropriate pathway identified through assessment and management.

CONSIDERING A HIP OR KNEE REPLACEMENT?

Prepare for informed decisions.

Our role is not to tell you that you need surgery. We can help you understand your current function, what may be addressed through rehabilitation, and what information may help you have informed discussions about your options.

01Physical function
02Strength and mobility
03Functional limitations
04Exercise capacity and confidence
05Optimisation and rehabilitation needs
